Four Cluster Successes Secure Ticket to the “University of Excellence” Race

Connect four: All four Excellence Clusters submitted by the founding universities of the Northwest Alliance—Bremen and Oldenburg—have been approved as part of the Excellence Strategy of the German Federal and State Governments. This outstanding accomplishment marks a major milestone and opens the door to the next big goal: applying together for the title of “University of Excellence.”

“The Clusters of Excellence we have acquired are the entry ticket for the competition – together with the University of Oldenburg – for the title of ‘University of Excellence.’ We have been hoping for this all along,” said the President of the University of Bremen, Professor Jutta Günther. “As we have been working intensively with the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg for some time now, we are well prepared. The great success shows how sustainable our cooperation is.”

“Our two universities have a tradition of close collaboration and have set themselves the goal of further boosting their impact and appeal at the national and international level. We are now underscoring this mission by submitting a joint application for the University of Excellence funding line, and thus forging ahead with our ambitious plans in a targeted manner,” explained the President of the University of Oldenburg, Professor Ralph Bruder.
