Prof. Dr. Astrid Nie\u00dfe, professor for digitalized energy systems at the University of Oldenburg, and Prof. Dr. Frank Oliver Gl\u00f6ckner, professor for Earth system data science at the University of Bremen, are members of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). \nFrank Oliver Gl\u00f6ckner: Astrid and I met through the German National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). The NFDI was established in response to a recommendation by the German Council for Scientific Information Infrastructures (RfII) to improve collaborative data management in Germany.<\/p>\n

Question: Do you have a long-term vision for how your research or work could contribute? What would that be?<\/h4>\n

\nAstrid Nie\u00dfe: Every researcher in Germany will eventually face the same questions: What data can I use? Has anyone already generated this data? Has it been verified and undergone quality control? If so, we should reuse the data whenever possible. This is precisely the issue we\u2019re trying to address at the NFDI.
\nOther countries envy us for it. No other country \u2013 European or otherwise \u2013 has ever tackled such a project in this way before.<\/p>\n

\nFrank Oliver Gl\u00f6ckner: The initiative aims to cover all of our research domains, which include consortia in energy, biodiversity, Earth system research, and chemistry. We also have consortia in the humanities and social sciences that are working on making public sector data publicly available.<\/p>\n

\nAstrid Nie\u00dfe: Within the Excellence Initiative, we have the opportunity to collaborate in a new way. A strong, trusting relationship is essential when discussing how to exchange and share data.<\/p>\n

\nFrank Oliver Gl\u00f6ckner: The collaboration with Astrid is characterized by mutual trust and friendship. She works in the exciting field of energy research, while we work in biodiversity research. I believe these are both major issues that must be addressed together.<\/p>\n
