Andreas Hein & Karin Wolf-Ostermann<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

Nursing scientist Karin Wolf-Ostermann of the University of Bremen and engineer Andreas Hein of the University of Oldenburg are collaborating across campuses on the \u201cNursing Innovation Center\u201d project. Their partnership exemplifies the close ties between the two universities. Together, they are developing technical solutions that significantly reduce the workload of nursing professionals in their daily work.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>

Question: What do you achieve together that you wouldn’t be able to achieve alone?<\/h4>\n

\nAndreas Hein: Our common goal is to counteract the shortage of skilled nursing professionals.<\/p>\n

\nKarin Wolf-Ostermann: What we can actually achieve much better together is truly implementing technologies into everyday care.<\/p>\n

Question: When and how did you meet?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\nKarin Wolf-Ostermann: We met almost ten years ago, during the collaboration at PIZ, the Nursing Innovation Centre.<\/p>\n

\nAndreas Hein: We were looking for a consortium, so we approached our colleagues in Bremen and then successfully submitted the application and won the project.<\/p>\n

Question: What defines your colleague? As a person, as a colleague? <\/strong><\/h4>\n

\nKarin Wolf-Ostermann: What I appreciate about his work approach is that things are not only developed from the technological viewpoint, but always take into consideration: How can this actually be used in everyday care?<\/p>\n

\nAndreas Hein: Andreas Hein: And with Karin, there is also a very special thing: She has a statistics and mathematics background. And these analytical skills that she brings with her, of course suit us engineers perfectly. <\/p>\n

\nKarin Wolf-Ostermann: He is simply a delightful colleague with whom you can work in a very solution-oriented way. And that is just what I like to do.<\/p>\n

Question: What does your collaboration look like specifically?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\nAndreas Hein: I primarily develop robotic systems for nursing care, meaning systems that provide physical relief in care work.<\/p>\n

\nKarin Wolf-Ostermann: And I am the one who then actually tests, evaluates and implements this practically.<\/p>\n

\nAndreas Hein: None of us, our engineers or computer scientists, has a deeper insight into nursing practice. So when we develop technology, we simply have to find out what we need to consider for this process through on-site visits or even better through filtered information from our scientific partners. <\/p>\n

What else would you like to achieve together?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\nKarin Wolf-Ostermann: A vision for the future would perhaps be to rethink nursing care from scratch in order to enable much more individualized preventive care. Supporting professionals through real-time data, which we have, or supporting relatives who do the care work. That is my vision for the future: to advance care in a novel way.<\/p>\n<\/div>
