Franziska Gloeden & Anne-Kathrin Guder

How can successful knowledge transfer between universities and society be achieved? The “We Are Connected” series features individuals from the fields of research, teaching, knowledge transfer, and administration who collaborate across campuses. Franziska Gloeden from the University of Oldenburg and Anne-Kathrin Guder from the University of Bremen explore the topics of knowledge transfer, innovation, and start-up support. Among other things, the two team leaders discuss in the “We Are Connected” video series how they hope to support founders in the region through the hoi startup factory.

00:00 – 00:04
Anne-Kathrin Guder: Just casually tossing ideas back and forth, that works really
well.

Question: When and how did you meet?

00:12 – 00:22
Anne-Kathrin Guder: We met at the University of Oldenburg because I was the team leader of the Research and Transfer department and Franziska Gloeden was part of the team.

00:22 – 00:31
Franziska Gloeden: I think it’s been about five years now. Partly together at Oldenburg and now, of course, through the cooperation between the Universities of Bremen and Oldenburg.

Question: What defines your colleague? As a person, as a colleague?

00:31 – 00:44
Franziska Gloeden: Whenever we have ideas, I can always go to Anne-Kathrin and we can brainstorm together about how to implement them. It’s a very trusting collaboration across various channels.

00:44 – 00:56
Anne-Kathrin Guder: What are your thoughts on this or that funding program? What are you currently discussing about it? Exchanging views, tossing ideas back and forth, that works really well.

00:56 – 00:59
Franziska Gloeden: A similar sense of humor does help a lot, of course.

Question: In what ways do you inspire each other in your collaboration?

01:01 – 01:11
Franziska Gloeden: The topic of startup support is one we have in common, and both teams are very actively working on it. And here we have many points of intersection. For example the hoi startup factory.

01:11 – 01:29
Anne-Kathrin Guder: How do we manage to keep startups in this region? How can we support and launch even more startups from the universities of Oldenburg and Bremen? How can we make our universities attractive for startups to come here? This requires a large innovation ecosystem.

01:29 – 01:51
Franziska Gloeden: Bremen, with its BRIDGE network, can already offer excellent insights for its region. But Oldenburg, too, with its connections to rural areas, can reach out to a very wide area. At the same time, the cooperation with the University of Groningen adds an international dimension. The aspect of collaboration with
society is a very crucial point.

What else would you like to achieve together?

01:51 – 02:04
Anne-Kathrin Guder: We should spread this approach more widely within the university, optimally with the joined work force. Because we can exchange views and push things forward together.

02:04 – 02:09
Franziska Gloeden: To open up and engage in more dialogue, that would be the goal.
