The Metropolitan Region Northwest Germany is calling for innovative project ideas to advance the energy transition. Applications are due by October 15, 2026.
Shaping the future of the Northwest together: the Metropolitan Region Northwest Germany invites stakeholders from across the region to apply for a new funding round through the Bremen-Lower Saxony Grant Fund. The fund, endowed with 520,000 euros annually, supports groundbreaking ideas and regional partnerships aimed at strengthening the Northwest’s capacity for innovation and driving the energy transition forward. Applications are due by October 15, 2026.
The fund is looking for projects that address key questions in the region’s energy transformation and offer solutions to current challenges facing the Northwest. Priority goes to projects built on cross-state cooperation between Bremen and Lower Saxony – for example pilot projects or R&D initiatives with strong potential for regional impact. Eligible funding categories include practical toolkits, feasibility studies, concept papers, pilot applications (R&D), expert assessments, formats for regional branding and knowledge transfer, advisory services, and demonstration projects. Applicants can submit project ideas across a range of topics, including the heating transition, sector coupling and energy neighborhoods, implementation of the Metropolitan Region Northwest Germany’s hydrogen strategy, skilled-worker development for the energy transition, land use for the energy transition, energy efficiency, and other regional needs related to the energy transformation.
The Metropolitan Region Northwest Germany’s office offers early consultation appointments to anyone interested in applying.
